Server to Cloud Migration
Migrating on-premises servers to Microsoft 365 offers significant advantages, including reduced infrastructure costs, enhanced collaboration, and improved security. It eliminates the need for physical hardware, lowering expenses and simplifying IT management, while providing scalable, subscription-based pricing.
Employees gain access to tools like Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive, enabling real-time collaboration and remote work. Microsoft 365 ensures robust security with advanced threat protection, compliance tools, and regular updates. By modernizing IT infrastructure, companies can future-proof their operations and align with the remote workplace trends, making Microsoft 365 a cost-effective and strategic choice.
The Problem
One of our clients had an on-premises server that was approaching the age to replace. This client requested The Miller Group’s expertise to propose an alternative solution to their on-premises server. Our client wanted a solution to provide their employees an efficient working environment to seamlessly work remotely or at their office. Our client wanted a cost-effective solution and wanted to implement various security measures, including zero trust security, multi-factor authentication (MFA), email security against spam, malware, spoofing and phishing, enabling password-less computer authentication.
The Solution
In short, our solution was to migrate their server’s functions to the Microsoft 365 environment. The scope of this cloud migration was expansive and extended beyond just the physical server. This cloud migration affected user accounts, computers, software, data and network devices. Our Project Team reviewed all functions found on the server in the discovery phase and planned appropriate migrations to both eliminate dependency on the physical server and to start the transition to the cloud on a solid, secure footing.
The Result
This cloud migration resulted decommissioning of their physical server, users utilizing Teams for file sharing and collaboration, improved identity, email and infrastructure security with Microsoft Business Premium licenses. We initiated our Microsoft 365 backup to provide business continuity for their data in their Microsoft 365 environment. After the migration, we had technical support onsite for dedicated fast resolutions and provided training. Our training covered how users access their files through Teams and how to use Windows Hello for Business to log into their computers. In the end, the project was completed on time and exceeded our client’s expectations.
