Local Accounting Firm – Physical Server Replacement

Network Replacement

A server replacement involves migrating critical systems and virtual machines from aging, unsupported hardware to a new server platform, improving reliability, performance, and long-term support while reducing the risk of hardware failure.

The Problem

A local accounting firm engaged The Miller Group to address several infrastructure challenges, including aging server hardware, an out-of-warranty backup and disaster recovery appliance, and operating systems approaching end of life. The existing server’s storage array was showing signs of degradation, replacement parts were no longer available, and the ERP environment required modernization to improve performance and align with vendor best practices.

The Solution

The Miller Group designed and implemented a comprehensive infrastructure refresh that included replacing the existing physical server and Datto BCDR appliance, upgrading supported server operating systems, and migrating critical virtual machines to the new environment. As part of the project, the Domain Controller was migrated, and the ERP environment was restructured into separate SQL and Remote Desktop Services (RDS) virtual machines. The team also coordinated closely with the ERP software vendor to support configuration, testing, and validation throughout the migration process.

The Result

The local accounting firm successfully transitioned to a modern, supported infrastructure with improved reliability, performance, and disaster recovery capabilities. The upgraded environment eliminated risks associated with aging hardware and unsupported operating systems, enhanced ERP performance through a dedicated SQL architecture, and provided a scalable foundation for future business operations.
