Local Uniform Supplier – Cloud Migration

Cloud Migration

A cloud migration is the process of moving data, applications, and IT systems from on-premises servers to cloud-based infrastructure.

The Problem

This Local Uniform Supplier relies on aging on-premises servers that limit scalability, increased security risk, and require physical safeguards such as a locked server room. Managing Active Directory, user accounts, data storage, and endpoint security locally creates operational complexity and makes it difficult to meet modern security and compliance standards. The organization needs a more secure, resilient, and manageable IT environment that supports future growth.

The Solution

The Miller Group lead a phased migration from the Local Uniform Supplier’s on-premises servers to Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365. To start, we prepared a cloud server in Azure to support the migration of Prism from their server. The second server, was fully retired by migrating Active Directory and local user accounts to Microsoft Entra ID, transferring all data to Teams and OneDrive, and joining all computers to Entra and Intune.

Security has been elevated beyond the physical server room by implementing a cloud-based baseline that encrypts all data in transit and at rest, both locally and in Azure. The Microsoft 365 environment has been hardened in advance with enhanced security controls, while the network firewall was prepared to assume DHCP and DNS responsibilities.

Users were guided through the transition with a structured communication campaign, followed by the rollout of mandatory multi-factor authentication. Endpoint management will shift from the local server to Entra and Intune, enforcing disk encryption, DNS filtering, automated firewall and antivirus policies, and Microsoft Defender XDR protections. Project Engineers provided onsite support to assist users with device migration, Windows Hello for Business setup, and Teams file organization, including end-user training. The project concluded with the secure removal and e-cycling of the legacy server hardware.

The Result

The Local Uniform Supplier transitioned to a modern, cloud-managed IT environment that delivers stronger security, simplified administration, and improved reliability. Data and devices are now protected by enterprise-grade encryption and automated security controls, while users benefit from seamless access, modern authentication, and improved collaboration through Microsoft 365 and Teams. The retirement of on-premises servers reduces risk, lowers operational overhead, and positions the company for scalable, future-ready growth.
